FUSE Funding Enables Growth and Investment in BIM
Flinders Chase has been awarded grant funding through the £4million FUSE Fund, which is part of the Regional Growth Fund. The grant funding has enabled us to invest in the latest BIM technology, new transport modelling tools and additional office furniture which will enable us welcome new staff to the technical team. The wider Highways and Transportation sector has been slow to embed the use of BIM tools in the design process for highways and external site infrastructure, but BIM processes allow us to optimise the design process and reduce unnecessary costs.
Director for Highways & Transportation, Ian Yates, is leading the shift in our design processes to ensure highways elements are designed in 3D, allowing dynamic changes to the design. The integration of layers of landscape architecture and utilities information within the model allows construction stage information to be easily communicated to the site team and a streamlined process for approving and implementing Section 278 and 38 highway improvement works. Additional transport and junction modelling software is also enabling us to expand our design and assessment capabilities. The highways team are using the new modelling tools on a range of current projects throughout the North West and the Midlands.
