Graduate Infrastructure Consultant

About Us

Flinders Chase is a specialist independent consultancy, based in Liverpool, providing transport planning, project management, education & sports consultancy, highway engineering and technical services to private and public sector clients.  Our capital projects team supports the development of social infrastructure including schools, colleges, and universities, as well as sport and leisure facilities.  Our highways team supports the planning, design and implementation stages for highway and sustainable travel infrastructure.  We have a diverse mix of degree apprentices, graduates, engineers, Principal Engineers and Directors with over 30 years’ experience.  We have a strong focus on developing staff, rewarding them well for performance and providing a great place to work. We work collaboratively with a wide range major housing developers, local authorities, universities, colleges, major contractors and multi-disciplinary teams.

 

Your Role

As a Graduate Infrastructure Consultant, you will be playing a hands-on role on projects that make a real difference.  This includes shaping education, sports, social and transport infrastructure for new sustainable villages and towns, supporting planning applications and the design stages for large projects.  You will work alongside experienced colleagues and managers who will help you build your confidence, technical and professional skills.

Your work will include:

  • Supporting transport assessments, feasibility studies and travel plans.
  • Supporting education infrastructure assessments, sport and physical activity facility strategies.
  • Collecting, analysing and presenting data.
  • Gathering evidence, researching and interpreting policy requirements.
  • Undertaking site visits, attending and administering meetings.
  • Preparing high-quality reports and technical notes that will support planning applications, planning appeals and planning inquiries.
  • Using modelling tools, analytical and AutoCAD software to prepare drawings and illustrative material.
  • Supporting colleagues in the project management of a wide range of projects.
  • Developing your technical and engineering skills to support a wider range of projects.
  • Working closely with a wide range of technical disciplines, clients and stakeholders.

About You

You should be enthusiastic, an excellent communicator, have a strong work ethic, be interested in the Built Environment and be ready to learn.  You must already be eligible to work in the UK without any visa restrictions.

Essential

  • A degree in geography, planning, engineering (civil or environmental), economics, data science or a related field (at 2:1 or above).
  • A minimum of Grade 6 (Grade B) in Maths and English at GCSE (or equivalent).
  • Able to work full-time from our Liverpool City Centre Office.
  • Evidence of good written communication skills and an eye for detail.
  • A good level of research and data analysis skills.
  • A genuine interest in transport planning, infrastructure delivery or urban planning.
  • An ability to work collaboratively and good time management skills.
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to changing work priorities.

Desirable

  • Relevant work placement or internship experience.
  • An understanding of the UK planning system.
  • Experience in using AutoCAD, GIS and/or modelling tools.
  • Experience of working within teams.
  • Experience in project management.
